The venue
Tim Morehouse Fencing Club trains at New Canaan Country School, 635 Frogtown Rd, New Canaan, CT 06840. That is the address to put in the car. It is a club that uses the school's gym, so you do not need to be a family at the school to fence there, and the desk sends the entrance and parking details with every booking so the first evening is not spent looking for the right door. Parents from Stamford, Darien, Norwalk, Westport, Greenwich and Fairfield drive to this one gym, and New Canaan families have it on their doorstep. This desk books the lessons; the club teaches them. How that works.
What runs here
Classes for kids, teens and adults
Group classes for children from five, teens and adults, from the first lesson up. Class times change by season; text the desk for this week's times.
02Private lessons
One coach, one fencer, one weapon, booked through the desk around the coach's availability.
03Camps
Full days of fencing in the school breaks, for children and teens. The desk texts the dates for the next break.
04The competitive team
Fencers who train to compete hold USA Fencing membership and fence under the club's name.
2008
Olympic silver medal, saber
Founded by an Olympian
The club was founded by Tim Morehouse, who won Olympic silver in saber in 2008. The club teaches all three weapons, foil, epee and saber, and a beginner of any age starts with the same $40 one-hour trial lesson with the mask, jacket, glove and weapon provided. The founder's weapon is saber; a beginner is not steered toward it, and the coach suggests a weapon after seeing the fencer for an hour. Foil, epee or saber explains the three.

Before you text
Have four things ready: who the lesson is for and their age, whether they have fenced before and in which weapon, which town you are coming from, and which days could work. The desk books the trial lesson with the club and texts back the day and time, the entrance and parking, and the short list of what to bring: sneakers, long athletic pants, a t-shirt and water. Nothing is bought before the trial; the club provides the gear.
New Canaan questions people actually ask
Is the fencing club actually inside New Canaan Country School?
Yes. Tim Morehouse Fencing Club trains at New Canaan Country School, 635 Frogtown Rd, New Canaan, CT 06840. It is a club that uses the school's gym, so you do not need to be a family at the school to fence there. The desk sends the entrance and parking details with your booking.
What does a trial lesson at the New Canaan club cost?
Forty dollars for one hour, with the mask, jacket, glove and weapon provided. That is the only price printed on this site. What a class block, a private lesson or a camp costs depends on the age group and the season, and the desk will text you the current figures when you ask.
Can an adult who has never fenced start here?
Yes. The club takes beginners from age five to adult, and adults start with the same one-hour trial lesson as everyone else. Say you are an adult beginner when you text and the desk books you into the right hour rather than a children's class.
When do the classes run?
Class times change by season and by age group, so there is no timetable on this page. Text the desk for this week's times and you get the slots that match the fencer's age and experience.
Does the club compete?
Yes. There is a competitive team, and fencers who train to compete hold USA Fencing membership and fence under the club's name. Nobody is put on the team at the trial lesson; that is a conversation with the coach once a fencer has been training for a while.
